The birthplace of the noble laurel is Asia Minor and the Balkan Peninsula. Currently, it also grows in the Mediterranean countries (Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain), South and North America, Africa and the Black Sea region. In ancient times, it was grown mainly in Greece and Rome. Laurel symbolized strength and glory, first in the culture of the Mediterranean, and then throughout Europe. Although it was considered a symbolic plant, the laurel also has medicinal properties: it was known as an excellent medicine for the stomach, a variety of tinctures and ointments were made from it, which were used to treat rheumatism. This aromatic plant with a bitter root taste is added to meat dishes, various soups and sauces. Bay leaf is also an indispensable component of marinades for meat, vegetables and even mushrooms.
